Jane Eyre was a favorite years ago- my first classic novel. Tough read at first with the language or accent used, but i stuck with it. Excellent novel. So very sad the family died off so young.
I love studying the lives of the sisters. I love parts of The Professor, like chapter 6! I felt the same with Vellette. I believe she perfected some of her sentiments in these books in Shirley. I was surprised at how much I loved Shirley. Jane Eyre will always be my favorite. I am a sucker for a good deathbed scene and an enduring personal/emotional growth. The only Bronte book I can't seem to bring myself to finish is Wuthering Hieghts. I have opened and closed that book so many times. Just too toxic for my taste. But I love listening to others take on it who can read it through.
I just picked up “Wildacre” by Phillips Gregory at my local library - I believe this read is one of your recent recommendations. I am going away to Montauk on Long Island, NY next week and hopefully will have time to start reading the novel. I have not read any of the novels you recommended today - perhaps someday!

It was actually your last year's autumnal recommendation list of books that introduced me to your channel, which I am so grateful for. Autumn is my favourite season, so I re-watched that particular video quite a few times since then... ☺
Thank you so much. I have read both Agnes Grey and Tenant of Wildfell Hall and I loved them both. I also loved Jane Eyre. Wuthering Heights was just too disturbing for me. The other books, I would gladly read again, though.
I’ve read Jane Eyre a couple of times and liked it generally, I had to read Wuthering Heights for university and I’m not at all tempted to re-read it. A couple of years ago I discovered Anne Brontë and the Tenant of Wildfell Hall and absolutely loved it, the theme feels very modern which must have been unimaginable at the time. That’s the book I will probably re-read some time in the future. Thanks for this series!

I’m re-reading Jane Eyre this year. I read it as a teen and didn’t like it then. I’m still not fond of how Jane is treated but I appreciate the writing and the story much more.
Hi, Ros! I found "Agnes Grey" a nice enough book, but not nearly as well-developed and gripping as "The tenant of Wildfell Hall". I'd like to recommend "Romancing Miss Brontë", by Juliet Gael, to all the Brontë sisters' lovers. It's such a beautifully written historical fiction.
"To Walk Invisible" is an excellent film version based on the lives of the Bronte sisters. Directed by Sally Wainwright in 2016 it sensitively portrays the struggles and hardships which eventually led to the creation of such timeless classics. Highly recommended!
In the last days I browsed through "The Infernal World of Branwell Bronte" by Daphne Du Maurier (I read the book about 40 years ago and couldn`t remember very much). I can recommend to read it. Du Maurier did a lot of research and tells the life of Branwell and his siblings as well very realistic.
